If you will be travelling alone by train...  from Brussels Central Station:  Take the train in the direction of Eupen, get off at Verviers Centrale, then take the Bus 395 from Verviers Centrale to Place Albert 1er in Malmedy.  The youth hostel is a 15-20 minute walk from Place Albert 1er.
